Dutch oven cooking is becoming a lost art. Our vision is to introduce you to a way of cooking that is not only fun but will also allow you to impress your family and friends and possibly land you a dream job working with Dutch ovens.
If you love the outdoors and being in the mountains, you will certainly enjoy the relaxing method of using Dutch ovens over a campfire.
Because of the nature of this class (lifting heavy Dutch ovens, handling hot coals, etc.), it is recommended that the minimum age of students be 16 years old.
Level 1 – Beginner (2-Day/2-Night Class)
This class is designed for those who want to learn how to use a Dutch oven as a hobby in their backyard or on camping trips. This will give you the basic information to get you started with this fun way of cooking.
The classes will be held outdoors onsite and sleeping accommodations will be held in our Bed and Breakfast at The Chicory House Bed And Breakfast in Livingston, Montana. Instructor, your lodging, 3 meals a day, all ingredients, Dutch ovens, and tools all supplied.
Basic cooking skills are required. A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of this class. Contact us for a recommended gear list.
Level 2 – Intermediate
(4-Day/4-Night Class; Level 1 and 2 Combined)
This is designed to go a few steps farther than your basic skills, taking you into the history of Dutch oven cooking to emphasizing temperature control and into open flame cooking.
Our goal is to help you increase your confidence in using a Dutch oven and make sure you have a good foundation to see you on your way.
The classes will be held outdoors onsite and sleeping accommodations will be held in our Bed and Breakfast at The Chicory House Bed And Breakfast in Livingston, Montana. Instructor, your lodging, 3 meals a day, all ingredients, Dutch ovens, and tools all supplied.

Level 3 – Advanced (10 Day/10-Night Class; Level 1, 2, and 3 Combined)
This is designed for those seeking a hands-on experience and those who wish to learn how to earn a living in the backcountry as a cook. You will be required to participate in a 10-day course preparing daily meals and learning the day-to-day operations and setup, just like a backcountry camp. This school is designed to give you a backcountry setting in the comforts of our property.
The classes will be held outdoors onsite and sleeping accommodations will be held in our Bed and Breakfast at The Chicory House Bed And Breakfast in Livingston, Montana. Instructor, your lodging, 3 meals a day, all ingredients, Dutch ovens, and tools all supplied.
A certificate of completion, service hours, list of potential employers, and letter of recommendation will be awarded at the end of this class # 3 after completing all 3 courses.
